Rotary brings fun and happiness to 800 children

Children with special needs living in and near Woking were treated to a day of fun by Rotary clubs. The 22nd Kids Out day at the Army Rugby Football stadium in Aldershot was supported by Rotarians from 10 clubs including Woking and Woking District.

800 youngsters, who included pupils from Woking’s Park, Broadmere, Bishop David Brown and Freemantles Schools , as well as Meath School in Ottershaw, were joined by teachers, carers and parents swelling the numbers to around 1500.

The children were entertained by clowns, face painting, three large inflatable slides, bouncy castles, roundabouts, puppet shows, and a miniature steam railway. A number of farm animals were another attraction for the youngsters. The superb Bishop David Brown steel band played throughout the day.

Food included sandwiches, fresh fruit, hot dogs and burgers, washed down by fruit juices.

On hand were the Police, St John Ambulance Brigade, and Fire Brigade to ensure the security and safety of the children who were also allowed to see their equipment.

Rotary works with the Kids Out charity which is the only one in the UK dedicated to bringing fun and happiness into the lives of disadvantaged children. Since 1999 Kids Out has been helping Rotary to take thousands of disadvantaged kids out for a magical day on the second Wednesday in June each year. For these children life often revolves around what happens within just a mile or two of home and many will never get a fantastic day out like this one.
