This year’s Rotary District 1140 annual conference at Southampton was well represented by the club and lived up to its expectation for a meaningful and memorable experience. The conference showcased the work done at home and abroad by Rotarians and by our District group of clubs.
Many of the speakers were high profile celebrities who gave both motivating accounts of their lives and work. Mike Brace OBE, British Paralympic Association Vice President, who was blinded at the age of 10 in a firework accident described his life and passion for sport over the last 40 years having taken part in more than 50 different sports from surfing to sailing and skiing to cricket. Nicholas Owen, TV Presenter, who has hosted all ITN’s and BBC’s major news bulletins gave the conference a fascinating insight of some of the major news events. He continues to give his time to numerous charity events.
