The Rotary Foundation is Rotary's own charity. It is supported by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation and generous donations from the general public who share its vision of a better world.

The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

It has become one of the foremost non-governmental foundations with the educational support programme being the largest private scholarship endowment in the world.

January 2012

As always, we will consider all applications to the club for Matching Grants, the purpose of which is to assist in funding humanitarian service projects in cooperation with Rotarians in another country.

From July 2013 Rotary Foundation will offer two types of grant: District Grants and Global grants, the latter will replace Matching Grants.

District grants are block grants which enable clubs and districts to address immediate needs in their own communities as well as abroad.

Over the next few months we will be promoting and encouraging donations to Rotary Foundation Annual Giving, the purpose of which is to provide the necessary funding for operation of Foundation programmes.

The target set by Rotary International is $100 or £60 per member. An alternative is to become a Sustaining Member and pay on a quarterly basis.

Donations to Rotary Foundation instead of sending Christmas cards to fellow members raised £265.

Foundation Month - November 2011

As November is Rotary Foundation Month, we invited John Dumbrell, District Chairman, Foundation, to visit us on Monday 21st and make a presentation on the topic to the club. John brought us up to date with what is happening in the District and how Foundation is likely to change in the future.

During the run up to Christmas we will be promoting the sale of Rotary Foundation Christmas cards as a means of both raising funds and publicizing Rotary.

We will also encourage donations to Rotary Foundation instead of sending Christmas cards to fellow members.

As always, we will consider all applications to the club for Matching Grants.

Talk - Andreana Lefton - Monday 1st August 2011

In August we had a visit and talk by Andreana Lefton from Maryland, USA, who was on a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship for one academic year at the LSE, studying Philosophy and Public Policy. She gave us a really impressive account of herself and her work and experiences in the UK, in particular, her work with Roma Gypsy refuges and their children.
